The Gold deposition will take on the same finish as the stainless steel beneath it. We have found that shiny dogtags electroplate better and as a result look much better than do gold-plated than do matte (dull) finish tags.
The Gold plating option can be selected on Step 6 of the Dog Tag Maker page, or on most of our Military Templates.

How much extra does Gold-Plating cost?
A basic set of Stainless Steel Dogtags is affordably priced at $7.99. To Gold-Plate them there is a service fee of $60. Gold plated stainless steel ballchains can be selected separately at an additional cost of $20 for a long ball-neckchain and $5 for a short chain. So, the total price for a complete set of customized gold-plated tags and chains would come out to: $7.99 + $60 + $20 + $5 = $93How do you Gold-Plate the Dogtags?
We use the Jewel Master Pro HD Kit for gold electroplating our mil-spec stainless steel tags. Using a unique one-of-a-kind solution called TriVal β Acid Gold Strike the gold particles can be plated directly onto Stainless Steel without the need for a primer of 'Nickel Strike'.
