Why do some Dog Tag sets not come with Silencers?
- Non Standard shape or size... because silencers are only available in one size for standard shaped dogtags (with the exception of the mini black silencer for our mini dogtags!)
- Notched dogtags... because notched dogtags are traditionally not worn with silencers. A silencer would cover the notch, thus defeating the aesthetic purpose of a notched tag.
- 2-Hole dogtags... because a silencer would cover one of the holes, thus defeating the purpose of a 2 hole dogtag.
- Shifted Text dogtags... because the text is shifted to the left (to fit more of it) a silencer would completely cover some of the letters.
Why do Silencers sometimes fall off the Dog Tags?
How can I make the silencer fit tighter on the Dog Tag?
- Install (or keep) your silencers on your steel Dog Tags with chain attached (just as they would normally be worn).
- Boil a pot of water.
- Wearing oven mitts, hold the end of the ballchain and dip the Dog Tag with silencer fully into the boiling water for about 30 seconds.
- Then, dip the now hot Dog Tags with silencers into a bowl of ice-water for about 30 seconds.
- As it cools the silencers will shrink and conform to the shape of the Dog Tag! Repeat as necessary to cause further shrinking.

Popular Military
Most popular silencers used by military personnel and vets. These are often found in PX/BX/MCX/NEX military exchange shops.
Silicone Rubber
Silicone is a synthetic (man-made) rubber which is highly inert and does not react with most chemicals, is resistant to heat, and is hypoallergenic so it won't cause skin rashes. The "round" silicone rubber silencers are designed to stretch around and cover the edges of the oblong shaped dog tag.
Latex Rubber
Organic latex rubber is stronger than silicone but not as stretchy. It will last longer and won't come off the dogtag as easily, but is also more difficult to put on. If you have an allergy to latex rubber DO NOT order these as it may cause a skin rash. These work better for pets since they are much more durable.
Mini Latex Rubber
This silencer fits our mini dogtags (only black is available). Organic latex rubber is stronger than silicone but not as stretchy. It will last longer and won't come off the dogtag as easily, but is also more difficult to put on. If you have an allergy to latex rubber DO NOT order these as it may cause a skin rash.
Mini Silicone Rubber
These silencers fit our mini dogtags.
More Info About Dog Tag Silencers
Silencers can be easily added or removed by stretching it around the Dog Tag. They may vary slightly from what is shown and may eventually tear, especially when used in a rough environment. Do not use silencers for pet collars since they may chew or swallow them.
