Stainless Steel Dull 2D Finish. 20 mil thickness, 1.4x thicker than modern mil-spec tag. Hole and rolled edge can be re-oriented.

Our 20 mil matte dogtags are made of slightly thicker 304 grade (non-magnetic) stainless steel and are left with a dull finish so that you cannot see a reflection in the tag. 20 mil is equivalent to .02 inches or 0.5mm. measured on the flat part of the tag (the rolled edge is double this thickness).

Some Vietnam vets were originally issued slightly thicker tags like these... 20 mil as compared to the modern standard of 14 mil.

The numbers 18/8 represent the composition of this steel; it is 18% chromium and 8% nickel, making it very resistant to corrosion and oxidation. It is highly durable and easy to fabricate and clean. 18/8 stainless steel may also be known as austenite steel or 304 grade steel.

The Dull 2D finish on this tag achieved by cold rolling, heat treating and pickling which results in a low reflective matte surface appearance.

Embossed Characters per Line

The amount of characters per line is depedent on the size of the dogtag, dogtag orientation (i.e. rotated), Character Density CPI (Characters per Inch), & Start Position (i.e. closer to hole).
