Solid Brass Finish with notch, 20 mil thick.

1.4x thicker than modern mil-spec tag, more rigid and harder to bend. Notch, hole, and rolled edge can be re-oriented. Similar look to yellow monel (WWII era). Historically used with indented debossing type.

Thicker 20mil and heavier (0.2 oz) Notched brass tags that look more like 'Yellow-Monel' tags issued in the 40s and 50s. 20 mil is equivalent to .02 inches or 0.5mm. measured on the flat part of the tag (the rolled edge is double this thickness).

Our Notched brass dogtags are replicas from WWII, Korean war and Vietnam war eras. Although commonly referred to as Tooth Notch its actual purpose was for alignment in field transcription equipment. Today, this notch serves only as a historical reminder or for aesthetics. We recommend that you choose the vintage deboss type lettering for this type of tag.

Notched dog tags were standard issue until December 1964, depending on the era the material was sometimes Monel (which we do no offer, although our brass notched tags have a similar yellow-ish color). The Department of Defense officially switched to dog tags without notches in early 1965. However, military bases with older notched-style tags in inventory still issued them for a while from 1965 up until 1966.

This dogtag does not come with a silencer by default since it would obscure the notch, however they can be added to a customized set at no extra cost.

Embossed Characters per Line

The amount of characters per line is depedent on the size of the dogtag, dogtag orientation (i.e. rotated), Character Density CPI (Characters per Inch), & Start Position (i.e. closer to hole).
